In this series of tutorials, we showed how you can use all Shape Effects available in PowerPoint 2010 for Windows. This last tutorial of this series builds upon the previous Apply 3-D Rotation to a Shape in PowerPoint 2010 tutorial.

Follow these steps to play with the advanced controls related to 3-D Rotation:

  1. Select a shape that already has 3-D Rotation effect applied which you want to change further. Double-click the selected shape to activate the Drawing Tools Format tab in the Ribbon. Within this tab, click the Shape Effects button (highlighted in red in Figure 1).
  2. Shape Effects button within Drawing Tools Format tab of the Ribbon

  3. Note: The Drawing Tools Format tab is a contextual tab. These tabs are special tabs in the Ribbon that are not visible all the time. They only make an appearance when you are working with a particular slide object which can be edited using special options.
  4. This brings up the Shape Effects drop-down gallery as you can see in Figure 2. From the Shape Effects drop-down gallery, choose 3-D Rotation | 3-D Rotation Options (the last option in this gallery).
  5. 3-D Rotation Options within 3-D Rotation gallery

  6. This opens the Format Shape dialog box, as shown in Figure 3. In the Format Shape dialog box make sure that the 3-D Rotation tab is selected.
  7. 3-D Rotation options within Format Shape dialog box

  8. The options in the 3-D Rotation tab of the Format Shape dialog box are explained below:
  9. A. Presets

  10. Click the downward arrow next to the icon, which brings up a 3-D Rotation gallery very similar to the options that you can see in Figure 2, shown previously on this page. See the Apply 3-D Rotation Effects to Shapes In PowerPoint 2010 tutorial for more information.
  11. B. Rotation

  12. Here you can choose the three axes in 3-D space: X (width), Y (height), and Z (depth) to rotate the selected shape in 3-D space. You can either use the direction buttons or enter the angle values. Each change in value will show you how it effects the shape. Place your shape in the area that is not covered by the Format Shape dialog box so that you can see the effects on shape.
  13. Enter the Perspective values from 0 to 120 degrees or use the direction buttons to narrow or widen the field of view. The Perspective option will be grayed out if you have chosen any preset styles other than the Perspective preset styles (see A above).
  14. C. Text

  15. This check box allows you to keep the text flat even after you apply 3-D rotation effect to a shape.
  16. D. Object Position

  17. Here you can alter the distance from the base level of the shape. Doing so might influence different shapes in dissimilar ways.
  18. Note: Click the Reset button to convert a 3-D formatted shape back to a 2-D shape.
  19. After applying the required 3-D rotation effect to the shape, click the Close button to get back to the slide.
  20. Remember to save your presentation often.

Feature List 01 (Layout with Tabs)

The Feature List Layout comprises three sample PowerPoint presentations: one each to create a visual list for 4 features, 5 features, and 6 features. These work great when you have too much information to fit within one slide. This solution lets you use multiple slides, but the visual result is still that of one single slide!
