In this tutorial series, we showed you how you can play with all the effects available in PowerPoint 2007 for Windows. This is the last tutorial in this series, and builds upon the previous tutorial that showed you how to apply 3-D Rotation to a shape in PowerPoint 2007 (or higher version).

Follow these steps to play with advanced controls related to 3-D Rotation:

  1. Select a shape on your slide. Next, from the Drawing Tools Format tab, locate the Shape Effects group, as shown in Figure 1.
  2. Shape Effects button
    Figure 1: Shape Effects
  3. This brings up the Shape Effects drop-down gallery as you can see in Figure 2. From the Shape Effects drop-down gallery, choose 3-D Rotation | 3-D Rotation Options (the last option in this gallery).
  4. 3-D Rotation Options
    Figure 2: 3-D Rotation Options
  5. This opens the Format Shape dialog box, as shown in Figure 3. In the Format Shape dialog box, choose the 3-D Rotation tab to edit 3-D Rotation Options.
  6. Format Shape dialog box
Figure 3: Format Shape dialog box
  7. The options in this dialog box are explained below:
  8. A. Presets

  9. Click the downward arrow next to the icon, which brings up a 3-D Rotation gallery, very similar to the options that you can see in Figure 2, shown previously on this page.
  10. B. Rotation

  11. Here you can choose the three axes in 3-D space: X (width), Y (height), and Z (depth) to rotate the selected shape in 3-D space. You can either use the direction buttons or enter the angle values. Each change in value will show you how if effects the shape.
  12. The Perspective option is grayed out unless you choose one of the perspective preset styles (see A above).
  13. C. Text

  14. This check box allows you to keep the text flat even after you apply 3-D rotation to a shape.
  15. D. Object Position

  16. Here you can alter the distance from the base level of the shape. This might influence different shapes in dissimilar ways.
  17. Note: Click the Reset button to convert a 3-D formatted shaped back to a 2-D shape.
  18. Click Close to apply the changes and get back to the slide.
  19. Remember to save your presentation often.
