In the same way, PowerPoint 2011 for Mac allows you to erase segregations (borders) between cells and thus merge cells. Follow these steps to learn more:

  1. Open your presentation and navigate to the slide where your table is located and select it. Then access the Tables tab (highlighted in red within Figure 1) of the Ribbon. Within this tab, click the Erase button (highlighted in blue within Figure 1).
  2. Erase button is used to erase the borders of (and within) a table

  3. This will change the cursor to an Eraser icon as shown in Figure 2 (highlighted in red). Click this cursor on a segment of the border between two cells (refer to Figure 2 again).
  4. Cursor changed to an Eraser icon

  5. This will remove the selected border, and result in merging the distinct table cells into a single cell, as shown in Figure 3.
  6. Removing borders within a table merges adjacent cells

  7. Note: In the sample table shown within Figure 3 above, we have removed the horizontal border. Similarly you can also remove any vertical border.
  8. At this point of time, your mouse cursor will continue sporting the Eraser icon. This allows you to continue clicking on all the border segments that you want to remove. Once done, click on the slide area outside the table (or just press the Esc key) to change the cursor back to the arrow pointer icon.
  9. Save your presentation often.
