You have already learned about all the amazing stuff you can do with connectors in your PowerPoint 2010 slides -- all the way from drawing connectors to formatting connectors. Many times when you draw connectors between shapes, the connector may use the shortest path between two shapes -- this might mean that your connector overlaps other shapes, text boxes, or any other object that you don't want to overlap. You might have another reason to use a longer connector between two shapes as well -- whatever your reason may be, the good news is that you can easily reroute your connectors -- either automatically or manually.

We already learned about the file types PowerPoint 2011 for Mac can save -- but when you go and look at the file types that PowerPoint 2011 can open, you'll find that the list of file types is not exactly the same. When a connector is drawn to link two shapes together, it gets attached to a certain point on both shapes. These points are typically those that show red squares when you are attaching them to a connector. Sometimes you may attach your connector to the wrong red square, and may need to detach it from that point, and attach it somewhere else. Or maybe you connected to the wrong shape altogether, and now want to detach the connector from one shape and attach it to another.

Although almost everything within the Toolbox in PowerPoint 2011 works so well, you can still customize it as you want by clicking the Customize Toolbox button located at the upper-right corner of the Toolbox. This flips over the Toolbox interface, and displays the Toolbox Settings dialog box.

The Compatibility Report tab is the last tab within the Toolbox in PowerPoint 2011 for Mac. This tab helps you if the presentations you create in PowerPoint 2011 need to be shared with others who are using other versions of PowerPoint -- on either the Mac or even on Microsoft Windows. Within this tab, you can check compatibility of any open presentation with other versions of PowerPoint. The Compatibility Report provides info on every compatibility feature for any version of PowerPoint since Office 97, and it can tell you whether objects (and other features) in your presentation are compatible with other versions. In addition, it also offers to fix some incompatibilities for you.

Once you add a connector to link shapes in PowerPoint 2010, you can then format their line thickness, dash attributes, etc. to match your requirements. Connectors are just like conventional lines in PowerPoint, even as far as their formatting options are concerned -- so changing the color attributes of a connector is almost like changing the color of any line, as you will learn in the following steps.

Connectors may be different than lines in certain ways because they are linked to the shapes they connect -- move the linked shape, and the connector repositions itself with the shape. Yet in other ways, connectors are just like conventional lines in PowerPoint, especially when you explore their formatting options. You can thus add arrowheads to your connectors (or remove them), make your connector a dashed line rather than an undashed one, and also change the thickness of the connector.

We have already explored the Toolbox within PowerPoint 2011 for Mac, and how its various tabs are chock-a-block with options that let you work easily with your slide objects. The second tab within the Toolbox is called the Scrapbook, and what the Scrapbook does in itself is very unique because it is one of the very few features only available in PowerPoint for Mac, with no equivalent option for Windows users of PowerPoint. Yes, it is an extension of the clipboard, which even Windows users have access to, but the Scrapbook is a clipboard that can be cataloged and saved for future use.

You have already learned that there are essentially three types of connectors that you can use to link shapes in PowerPoint 2010 -- also you can add any of these three connectors (straight, elbow, or curved) as per your requirements. However, what will you do if you added a connector of one type and later realize that you should have used a different type? You need not delete that connector, and draw another one because PowerPoint 2010 allows you to change from one connector type to another fairly easily.

The first tab within the Toolbox in PowerPoint 2011 is the Custom Animation tab. This tab provides options to reorder, change, and remove existing animations on your slides. To use any of the options in this tab, you must have a slide object that has animation added to it.
