The Symbols tab of the Media Browser provides access to all the symbols for keyboard characters, foreign languages, registered and copyright symbols, currency, etc. -- these symbols typically need to be inserted with a combination of keystrokes, and getting to add them to your slides with a single-click access can be a boon.

PowerPoint's Photo Album feature is very powerful -- allowing you to insert hundreds of pictures in a two or three clicks. The best part is all these pictures are editable -- right down to their picture layouts, captions, etc. In fact, you can ask PowerPoint to show all pictures as black and white too -- and you can also change the frame shapes of the pictures -- you'll end up with pictures that have drop shadows, or a black border, or even a picture that's contained in a frame with rounded corners.

There are two types of tabs in the Media Browser -- the first type comprises those tabs that show media content within some designated folders on your computer (such as the Photos, Audio, and Movies tabs). The other three tabs (Clip Art, Symbols, and Shapes) show media content that's part of the Microsoft Office collection -- in this tutorial we will explore the Clip Art tab, which provides the quick and easy way in which you can browse Office 2011's Clip Art collection.

Rich, vibrant color attracts more attention in a picture than olde-world black and white. However, the contrast visible in a black and white photo is far superior -- artists and photography purists have long hailed the black and white picture as a creative medium. You may want to extend this creative medium to your Photo Album presentations -- fortunately, a click or two is all that is required to create an inspirational black and white Photo Album.

The Media Browser is a floating palette-like window in PowerPoint 2011 for Mac that contains several tabs for all types of media -- some of these tabs such as Photos and Audio have already been covered in separate tutorials -- in this third part of the Media Browser series, we explore the Movies tab. The Movies tab of the Media Browser provides quick access to movie clips (videos) that are already in your iMovie or Mac OS X Movies folders -- in addition, it also shows any videos you create or store in your PhotoBooth and iTunes applications.

In previous tutorials about the Photo Album option in PowerPoint 2010, you have learned how to create a new Photo Album and how you can edit existing Photo Albums by reordering pictures and changing the slide's picture layout. One of PowerPoint's most powerful features is to use captions for the pictures you add in a Photo Album presentation -- by default it uses the file name for your captions -- so if the original file name was "Winter Morning.jpg", the caption you see on your slide will be "Winter Morning" -- that is so perfect! Unfortunately not many people provide such nice names to their pictures -- most pictures are just subsequent numbers from a digital camera these days -- so a name like IMG06712.jpg is more common! You really don't want a caption like IMG06712 -- fortunately, PowerPoint lets you change captions too!

We have already explored the new Media Browser in PowerPoint 2011 for Mac, and its Photos tab. The second tab within the Media Browser is the Audio tab -- this tab allows you to quickly add sounds to your PowerPoint slides. Since PowerPoint 2011 is so well integrated with Mac OS X, the Audio tab displays your iTunes and GarageBand music collections. Similar to the Photos tab, the Audio tab is also divided into upper and lower panes.

Once you create a Photo Album in PowerPoint 2010, you can do so much more with your photos such as reordering their sequence, changing their brightness and contrast levels, etc. However what might not be that apparent is that you can also make changes with the layouts of the individual slides -- such as how many pictures you want to be visible on a single slide. You can also choose to show slide titles (or not), or even show your pictures in full screen view where one individual picture fits the entire slide area. What choices you make will depend entirely upon you -- in this tutorial, you will be aware of these different choices.

The adage, a picture is worth a thousand words has been heard more than a thousand times, and yet the truth in that statement still holds good, except in one scenario, and that is all about where the visuals actually came from? Many people are quite happy searching for keywords on Google’s image search (and similar search options on sites such as image searches on Bing and Yahoo!) -- they then copy / paste the visual content they find right into their slides!
