Slides with interactivity work great in scenarios where the presentation in question is not linear in which slides advance one after the other at set timings. Also, the person or audience for whom these slides are intended must be aware that some interactivity has been placed on these slides so that they can go ahead and click on some slide objects to cause an action to happen. This is especially true for trigger animations in which you have to click one object to result in an action happening for another object. Taking the concept of trigger animations further, you can make a click on a PowerPoint shape (or even an Action Button) to cause the sound or video clip on the slide to play, pause, resume, or stop.

When we talk about move and nudge in this tutorial, we do not mean just selecting a shape and dragging it somewhere else on the slide, although we discuss that too! Nudging a shape or any other slide object is essentially moving it just a wee bit using the arrow keys on your keyboard rather than the mouse. Move is different in that it is more of a super-nudge, and you can use the mouse to move rather than just nudge with keyboard keys. PowerPoint provides more than one way to nudge or move any selected shape or slide object.

With wide-screen equipped projectors and displays -- and the unending amount of sizes required for digital signage, it seems like the PowerPoint slide's typical 4:3 resolution is no longer sufficient. And many times, you have to change your slide size from one to another after it has been created! Yes, PowerPoint does have an option to resize your slides but that feature does have a "take-it-or-leave-it" approach, what with you ending up with slides where pictures and other slide objects can get elongated or squished. Although PowerPoint classifies Movie Actions as an animation type, these are not strictly animations. Yet, since you access them through the Custom Animation task pane, we have included this tutorial in our Animations section. In simple terms, a Movie Action is something that causes an event for any inserted movie clip -- these are simple events such as Play, Pause, Resume, and Stop. By providing complete control over these actions within the Custom Animation task pane, PowerPoint empowers you to make these events interact with other animations, including Triggers..

Depending upon where in the world you live, winter can be the best or worst time of the year. Managing winter in sub-zero temperatures can still be enjoyable but long spells of cold weather can make one gloomy. On the other hand, for us here in tropical India winter signifies the absence of hot afternoons -- but we never get to see any snow -- in fact there are many people here who have never seen snow all their life although we have the highest snow covered mountains in the world in this country! Winter is also a festive time -- reminding everyone of Christmas and the New Year -- in the following days, we plan to release plenty of content around both these events.

Many times, you want to animate several slide objects -- rather than select each of them individually and then animate them, you can select them all together as a group and animate them. You may also want to rotate a few shapes placed next to each other to a certain angle -- at times like these, you'll be happy to know that grouping, ungrouping, and regrouping shapes makes it simpler and quicker to do these tasks.

What happens when you get in your own way as you present? You dilute the message, distracting both the audience and yourself. You lose the intent and focus of the talk. Here are some ideas on how not to get in your own way. Walking from one specific spot to another is fine, but beware of shuffling from foot to foot - it's distracting to your audience. If you're not sure you're a shuffler, then stand on a piece of paper. People who shuffle usually rock from side to side moving their feet ever so slightly or rock back and forth. You will hear the paper noise as you move from one foot to the other. Do, however, plan to walk to and stand in several places. Just be sure you don't block your audience's view of the screen.

Distributing shapes is a simple concept that can make so much difference to the symmetry of your slides -- it means that the space between consecutive shapes (or any other slide objects) should be the equal so that they all appear evenly spaced out. If a fair amount of your time is spent in creating and editing PowerPoint slides, you know how important it is to keep all your slides looking consistent with shapes that are evenly positioned and equally spaced. The Distribute option is a great way to position shapes equidistant from each other, either on a horizontal or vertical plane.

There is a new trend with ebooks -- they are getting smaller all the time! Typically ebooks were just electronic versions of regular books that had a hundred pages or more and needed more than a day or two to read, especially if you had other full time work to take care of. Now, ebook authors have realized that it's no longer necessary to take a concept that fits into 16 pages, and extend it to an entire book -- so you get ebooks that are direct in their approach, get straight to the point -- and you learn something new within an hour! Nick Morgan's new book, How to Give a Great Presentation fits the description in the preceding paragraph. It is compact, and direct in its tone.

You have learned to align shapes in PowerPoint 2011 -- for alignment to work at all you need to have multiple shapes or other slide objects selected so that they can align to each other. However, you may want to align just one shape (or even a group of shapes) to the exact center of the slide. Fortunately, that is as easy to achieve as well.
