Learn PowerPoint 2010 for Windows: Crop Pictures

November 19, 2012

Crop Pictures in PowerPoint 2010

After inserting a picture in your slide, you should first consider if the picture you have used complements the message of your presentation and slide. Even if it is relevant, you should consider making it more pertinent by removing the areas that may be not required -- in other words, you must ponder and decide whether you want to use PowerPoint's Crop options. Cropping an area removes extraneous areas, and lets you add focus to the areas of the picture that are appropriate to the topic of your presentation.

Artistic Effects for Pictures in PowerPoint 2010

PowerPoint is a slide program but that doesn't mean that it does not have some cool picture editing tricks up its sleeve. When we say "cool", we certainly do not mean just inserting a picture, or even the fact that you can apply corrections or recolor hues. PowerPoint 2010 introduced a new option to make your pictures look different, almost like using a filter effect in Adobe Photoshop. PowerPoint provides around 23 filters as part of its new Artistic Effects option. Some of these filters (effects) can make your pictures look like paintings or sketches, and others can change the texture of your pictures. Apply any effect of your choice, and make sure you play around with all the options available to be aware of the surprisingly different results you can achieve right within PowerPoint.

Learn PowerPoint 2010 for Windows: Changing Color of Pictures

November 13, 2012

Changing Color of Pictures in PowerPoint 2010

Working with pictures in PowerPoint 2010 can be so much fun and fulfilling at the same time. One of the coolest options is to recolor the hue of your entire picture so that it looks almost like a duotone picture. You have already learned how to apply corrections to your inserted pictures -- and this Color option can help you do more with your pictures. Be aware though that although the option itself is called Color, it does not work like a coloring book -- rather it changes the overall hue color of the entire picture. This option also allows you to saturate color values, change the overall color tone, and do more.

Making the Complex Simple: by Jim Endicott

November 12, 2012

Jim Endicott

Hi, this is Jim Endicott with Distinction Communication. I vividly remember Thanksgiving 2009. Not so much for the Thanksgiving meal but for what happened the day afterwards. The gals, when they got up at the crack of dawn headed off for Christmas shopping. The guys -- we sat around the house, had leftovers, watched the few bowl games, and then we decided we were going to go shopping too. So we headed off to Fry's, a great electronic superstore and when we got there, it was absolutely packed. Wall to wall with people! We hit at the front doors and we noticed that something was happening in the middle of the store. So we pushed our way to the front of the crowd.

Learn PowerPoint 2011 for Mac: Move Text Boxes on a Slide

Move Text Boxes on a Slide in PowerPoint 2011 for Mac

You have already learned about the difference between a text box and a text placeholder. In this tutorial let us explore the ways to move text boxes all around in the slide area. Do note that we suggest you to move only text boxes, and not text placeholders since the positioning of the latter is normally controlled by the Slide Master -- do understand that although you can move them, but doing so overrides the defaults within the Slide Master. Typically, text placeholders are located in the same position on successive slides -- so if you really do need to move a text placeholder, do it within the Slide Master so that this change of position happens on all slides, providing a consistent look to your presentation.
