Sound files of various types such as MP3, WMA, or WAV files can be inserted in PowerPoint 2013, which automatically embeds them into your presentation. This means that you no longer have to worry about linked files getting misplaced or lost like you had to in previous versions of PowerPoint. Even then, it is a good practice to keep your sound files in the same folder in which you save your PowerPoint 2013 presentation -- even before you insert them.

Yes, It's great to have stuff neatly lined up - but your slide layouts can look more pleasing and aesthetic with a personal touch. It's the same with geometric shapes - they look organized, but why stay with just organized when they can also look more human with a shape that's slightly irregular? What if you could make all shape segments in your slides curved, slanted, and natural looking - as if they are hand-drawn? Won't that look more organic? If you agree, then you will certainly love these new irregular shapes for PowerPoint.

Pictures are one of the most important content types you add on your slides -- however, each picture you insert may have different resolutions -- and thus even though you may have sized your picture to look like a small postage stamp on your slide, it may be increasing your file size by several megabytes. You can of course manually compress pictures in your presentation. Additionally, you can set the document resolution for any presentation -- this option will compress pictures you insert automatically to the default resolution you set.

It's always been possible to add pictures from an online source within PowerPoint. For more than a decade this online source has been the pictures available online at Office.com -- in most previous versions, this was achieved through the Insert Clip Art option. Now in PowerPoint 2013, this option has been greatly enhanced -- and you are no longer restricted to content from just Office.com. Of course, this also has a new name now, and it's called Online Pictures. This feature is very helpful as you are not limited to just the pictures available on your system. You get variety of other picture sources to choose from.

The purpose of creating custom slide shows is to present them to your audience. To do that, you could access the Custom Shows dialog box, and then select a show and then choose to play it -- but yes, that's a long process indeed. In this tutorial, we will show how you can access the same custom show in a easier way. And then, we will also show you how you can set any custom show as the default, which means that when you actually play your presentation in Slide Show view, only the slides within the custom show you select will be shown.

Has it ever happened that you wanted to include just a few slides in your slide show rather than displaying the entire presentation? Then you need not delete the slides that need not be shown -- nor do you need to create a whole new presentation containing only the slides to be shown. All you need to do is to create a Custom Slide Show! So, what's a custom slide show? Think of your individual slides as songs within a playlist -- using the playlist analogy, your custom slide show is a playlist of those songs -- you just substitute songs for slides!

There is no doubt that a presentation with relevant pictures is more effective than just a plain text presentation. Although pictures enhance the look of your presentation, they can also phenomenally increase the size of your presentation file. PowerPoint 2013 and some previous versions are better in that respect compared to the much older versions because they do some compression even if you may not be aware -- yet there is an option to make the compression even more effective.

Do you want to add a video clip to your PowerPoint slide so that it continues to play across subsequent slides? This actually means that when you move from one slide to another, the video continues playing without any interruption. In PowerPoint 2007, Play Across Slides option was available in interface -- but in PowerPoint 2010 and 2013 it has been removed within the interface -- however, we found a workaround to get this option back, as explained in this tutorial.

Once a picture is inserted within PowerPoint, any manipulations you make to that picture are strictly only on the surface. The appearance of the picture changes on the slide, but the unaltered picture is stored within your PowerPoint presentation. Essentially that's good because if you make many changes to a picture -- and then regret experimenting -- then you can just reset your picture rather than starting all over again! There's one caveat though -- the option to reset any picture back to its original form works only if you have not run any compression options for pictures within your presentation.
