PowerPoint and indeed all Microsoft Office programs allow you to work with a particular object only if it is selected. For example, you select a shape to make changes to the shape. You similarly select a chart to edit the chart. And yes, you can select a text container object such as a text placeholder, a text box, or even a shape -- and then make changes to its position, formatting, size, etc. However, this changes the entire object -- and leaves the actual text content within that object largely unchanged. To make changes to the actual text, you first need to select the text separately and then make changes by using the options available within the Home tab of the Ribbon or the Mini Toolbar.

In PowerPoint 2013 resizing text boxes is easy. You select any text box and you get eight handles, four on corners, and four on sides -- you then drag any of these eight handles to resize. The problem with this approach is that the resized text box you end up with is not accurate. If you do not need accuracy, then you need not follow the rest of this tutorial -- however there might be times when you need your text box sized exactly as the size of a picture you have inserted -- or even an exact size based on a specification.

With Adobe Presenter you can create scenario-based training slides that are easily customizable -- these scenario templates contain the complete question vs. answer flows. For example, if you select the Business scenario, the flow is pre-defined as one question with multiple options. You just need to select the number of options and select the correct answer number. When you publish these scenarios, the user views only the questions initially. The options within the scenario-based training are displayed logically. The user has to complete answering the question by selecting the right answer, otherwise the user cannot navigate to the next slide as the play bar and the side bar are locked.

Text boxes in PowerPoint need to be moved and resized within different areas of the slide. While you may think that selecting and resizing is all that is to be done, that's not the entire truth because there's so much more you can do even with mere resizing -- if you know that these options exist.

Well, you really don't have to worry because you can make PowerPoint behave itself -- and bend it to your will.

Yes, you can select a text box and move it around by dragging it with your mouse, and then let it go wherever you want it placed. However, for all practical reasons this process is just visual and not accurate enough. Thankfully, PowerPoint provides a way to accurately position any text box just where you want it located.
