Sounds come in so many file types: MP3, WMA, or WAV files are just the common types that you can insert in PowerPoint slides. These sound files automatically embed into your presentation; this means that you no longer have to worry about linked files getting misplaced or lost like you had to in previous versions of PowerPoint. Even then, it is a good practice to keep your sound files in the same folder in which you save your PowerPoint 2016 presentation even before you insert them, as we show you in the following steps.

Did you select some text in the Notes Pane of PowerPoint, and change the font? Or perhaps the font size? Or you added a bulleted list? The problem is that nothing except the bulleted list shows up! All you see is plain text. Why? Is it not possible to see formatting in the Notes Pane? The solution is easy, but not obvious.

PowerPoint's fill, line, and effect attributes enable you to customize the look of shapes and other slide objects in your presentation. However, it may take ages to get that perfect color coordination and even after spending time the final look may not match the Theme of the presentation. So as an awesome alternative to end up with a coordinated color combination for the slide objects in your presentation, you can use Shape Styles.

Probably you know this situation: your presentation gets longer and longer and you want to help your audience to know which topic you are on and help them keep track of what has been covered already and what is still coming up. Unfortunately, PowerPoint does not provide an easy way to implement a progress indicator like this. This where the free Progress Indicator add-in comes into play.

Let’s talk about a fascinating picture of an iceberg by photographer Ralph A. Clevenger. This is a fully copyrighted picture, yet a quick search on Google Images will show that this picture has been used hundreds of times on the web. So have all these web sites licensed the picture? That doesn’t appear to be true since this picture sells at a very high price on Corbis.

Do you want to add a video clip to your PowerPoint slide so that it continues to play across subsequent slides? This means that when you move from one slide to another, the video continues playing without any interruption. In PowerPoint 2007, the Play Across Slides option was available within the interface. But in PowerPoint 2010 and later versions, this option is no longer available. However, there is a workaround to make a video play across slides, as explained in this tutorial.

Persuasion and influence are essential skills if you run a business – but unfortunately, many of us misunderstand what this means. In a small study with 100 staff in a manufacturing business, the most common answer to the question: “What does influence or persuasion at work mean to you?”, an overwhelming 76 people answered: “Getting other people to do what I ask.” What this demonstrates is a lack of understanding of both the scope of persuasion and the opportunity for using different influencing strategies. It also illustrates the lamentable fact that most of us are convinced by our own sense of rightness and that our ideas are the best.

At one extreme is a presentation that is bereft of any visual content, and the other extreme is a set of slides that have all visuals and almost no text. Yes, we do live in a world of extremes! We are not advocating which is a better approach, but contemporary presenters almost always make sure that they include many visuals on their slides. The adage, a picture is worth a thousand words is popular, and yet the truth of that statement may not hold good in at least one scenario, and that is all about where the visuals originated?

When you insert a video clip in PowerPoint, you may find that the inserted video starts playing abruptly when started within the Slide Show view, causing a jarring interruption to the flow of your slides. Fortunately, this is avoidable if you opt to add Fade In and Fade Out effects to the beginning and end of your video clip.
