PowerPoint 2016’s tri-paned interface has three regions: the Slides Pane, the Slide Area, and the Notes Pane. The Notes Pane is placed right below the Slide Area. The Notes Pane provides space to add speaker’s notes that can be so helpful to the presenter while presenting – you can also write any sort of information about the presentation or individual slide.

When you launch PowerPoint Online, it opens Presentation Gallery that provides you with a list of recently opened PowerPoint documents, and Themes and Templates to start a new presentation. You can also click the Open from OneDrive option to navigate your OneDrive folders so as to locate a PowerPoint file to open within PowerPoint Online. The Status Bar is a thin strip located at the bottom of the PowerPoint 2016 interface. This area provides information about the active slide and also provides several View options. To work with options in the Status Bar, you must have a presentation open in PowerPoint 2016; otherwise the options within the Status Bar will be grayed out.

The Ribbon is the long strip comprising tabs with buttons across the top of the main window within the PowerPoint interface. Since PowerPoint 2007, the Ribbon has replaced all the menus and toolbars that were found in PowerPoint 2003 and older versions. The Ribbon contains almost all the commands you need to work with your slides, and is designed in a way that helps you quickly find the commands that you need to complete a task. You no longer have to search commands endlessly through many menus and sub-menus.

Creating outlines for PowerPoint in various external applications lets you stay away from distractions in PowerPoint-land and concentrate on the structure of your slides rather than their appearance. When you start creating a new presentation, many users just launch PowerPoint and start creating their slides. Actually there are three common ways in which you can create slides. Yet, the best way to start creating presentation slides is not from within PowerPoint but by creating an outline in another program. Many purists say that you should not even launch PowerPoint until you have an outline in place.

Many people seem to consider PowerPoint to be a tool to provide and display static info. Now, what do I mean by static info? Static info is something you feed in, and it never changes unless you go and make changes manually. When I say static info, the info could be anything: sentences, figures, web links, pictures, charts, diagrams, videos, and even sound bytes!
But you get the irony, right? All this info in PowerPoint is static. What you put in stays right where you decided to put it. Nothing updates on its own. There is no intelligence involved, and life continues, just as it did for eternity. If that's what you want, then who can deny that PowerPoint is an awesome program.
