Unlike PowerPoint programs that run on your computer devices, PowerPoint Online provides you with an option to rename an open presentation. When you create a new presentation, PowerPoint Online uses a default name such as Presentation 1, Presentation 2, etc. This mimics the desktop experience. But did you know that you can provide a new name to the presentation while you are editing? This can be done in two ways. Additionally, you can also rename presentations within OneDrive, and this is similar to renaming your files in Windows Explorer.

Everything Looks Different?

Unlike desktop applications, both OneDrive and PowerPoint Online are constantly evolving much faster. That may explain why screenshots on this page sport an interface different from what you see when you log in.

We look at all of these three approaches in this tutorial:

Renaming Presentations within PowerPoint Online

  1. Make sure your presentation is in Edit mode. To bring up Edit mode, select the Edit Presentation |  Edit in Browser option, as shown highlighted in red within Figure 1. If you just created a new presentation, then you are already in Edit mode.
  2. Open your presentation in Edit mode

  3. This opens your presentation in Edit mode, as shown in Figure 2. Notice the name of your presentation, as shown highlighted in red within Figure 2.
  4. Locate presentation name

Feature List 01 (Layout with Tabs)

The Feature List Layout comprises three sample PowerPoint presentations: one each to create a visual list for 4 features, 5 features, and 6 features. These work great when you have too much information to fit within one slide. This solution lets you use multiple slides, but the visual result is still that of one single slide!
